The Power of Positive Thinking

Have you ever thought of something and then realized it’s coming true? It could be positive or negative. This is the power of our thoughts. We have the power to create anything we think. Someone once told me, “everything you see, every object, was once just a thought.” Now some people have also complained, “but Nicole, if I look in the mirror and say I’m beautiful, it doesn’t make me beautiful.” This may be true to an extent, but I disagree. Simply saying something has a certain level of power, believing it has another level of power, and then doing action has the power of the universe behind it.

I understand some people may not be spiritual in the sense of “ask and it is given;” therefore, I would like to also share with you some scientific studies done by Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Mayo Clinic about the power of positive thinking. Their research discusses the physical responses to negative and positive thinking. Negative thinking creates higher stress, higher blood pressure, which can lead to cardiovascular issues. “People with a family history of heart disease who also had a positive outlook were one-third less likely to have a heart attack or other cardiovascular event within five to 25 years than those with a more negative outlook.” (Johns Hopkins Medicine) Studies also show that negative emotions can weaken the immune response. Positive thinking has been linked to increased protection against stress, improved life satisfaction, and making healthier life choices.

So we now know and understand positive thinking is healthier, but what do we do about it? How do we change our thinking?!? Some may be thinking “I can’t control what I think, these thoughts just pop into my mind!” I understand sometimes it feels impossible, but we can control our thoughts. It may take time and practice, but I can help you get there! Some first steps include challenging negative thoughts, positive affirmations, and smiling more :)
