Emily Neal
RESIDENT IN COUNSELING
Emily is a Resident in Counseling, who received her Masters in Counselor Education with a focus in Clinical Mental Health in 2020 from Virginia Tech. Go Hokies! Since then, Emily has been working as a full-time school counselor. By having the opportunity to work with both adults and children throughout her career, Emily has been able to expand her world-view and increase her skills as a counselor.
Emily believes that counseling creates the opportunity for individuals to learn, grow, and eventually thrive. By building a trusting relationship with her clients, she has confidence that change can happen. Emily understands that each individual is unique and deserves to have a fulfilling life. Emily allows a space to provide unconditional positive regard, empathy, and tools for growth. Emily practices with a client-centered approach while cohesively using different counseling methods, such as CBT, mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy. In a time when overall wellness is the lowest for many individuals, Emily encourages clients to connect with themselves through mindfulness and self-care. Emily is interested in working with adults and kids on life transitions, anxiety, trauma, depression, stress management, low self-esteem, and family issues.
In her down time, Emily takes any opportunity to be outside. Whether it be through taking her dog for walks or just reading a book in the sun, Emily believes nature has the ability to heal and rejuvenate us. Emily enjoys biking and being with family and friends. She is excited about the opportunity to work with you!
